Portal # 1, the Sun Portal, is finally finished. Perola and I have spent many late nights and all of our spare moments working on it.
It is my first time to collaborate with her on a project and the process is challenging and wonderful. Both of our lives up to this point have prepared us to make these paintings. Both of us have studied mystical symbols and ancient cultures and Perola’s knowledge in this area is especially extensive which makes her really inspiring to collaborate with.
This portal mixes symbols and imagery from three of the oldest and most mystical cultures, Egyptian, Mayan and Aztec.
We are both very pleased with the result and itching to start the next portal. I won’t tell too much about what we’re planning just yet and the it will be some time before it appears on the street, but I promise for those who play our game there will be a special and worthwhile reward.

Me measuring location #1

Perola putting the finishing touches on the scarab sun medallion

The scarab, a symbol of Khepri, representing the sun god Ra. The beetle rolls a ball of dung across the ground much like how Khepri is said to roll the sun across the sky.

Horus, the Egyptian sun god, depicted as a falcon

The Aztec Sun Stone, also known as Calendar Stone mixed with symbols of ancient Egypt and our modern day symbol the QR code.
The Sun Stone’s purpose and meaning is still unclear. Many historians believe that the stone was used as an altar for rituals and many others insist that it was used as a calendar. Another theory is that the face in the center of the stone represents Tonatiuh, the Mexica god of the sun. This is why the stone became known as the “sun stone”.
