Now in its 55th year, the Venice Biennale is made up of avant garde art from all over the world.

With that said, understandably, the art was all over the place.

I loved some of it and then some of the other art, as art can be good at doing, was perplexing and its aggravating in its own way.

Venezuela represented what was going on with art in their country by showing a video representation of their best street artists,

The American installation by Sarah Sze was pretty cool and kind of a mess at the same time. It must have been so much work. The outside of the Pavilion and room after room inside was filled with intricate installations, like this one.

Romania brought an immaterial presentation (this one did a good job of making me impatient and frustrated) they simply stood in the middle of the pavilion surrounded by bare white walls and held a woman up in a parallel position for 5 minutes, and then sang a song. Maybe its over my head, but I couldn’t stay in that room long enough to try to figure out what was going on in there.

The Korean Pavilion was one of my favorites. We entered barefoot into a room that filtered in fragmented rainbow light. We waited our turn to enter the next chamber and it was an installation of complete silence and darkness for one minute. I was so taken by the absence of sound and light. There was such a peace there.

The Canadians had this beautiful installation that changed with the lighting. First front lit, then backlit, and then with a whimsical, colorful projection, that brought all of the shapes and sculpture to life.

After taking in all of this art I am so antsy to create something. My fingertips are gripping imaginary brushes and colors and imagery are flying through my mind wanting to be let out! I am excited to get to Napoli to paint the city tram.

Tomorrow is our last day in Venice. We will check out the Pavilions that we didn’t get to today and explore some more of the city…

More soon~
