Before I begin writing about new adventures in 2014, I want to wrap up 2013 with a summary in pictures. It was really an amazing year, full of inspiration, expansion, learning and fun. Let’s go~

In 2013 Hearts of the World, an ongoing art project that I started in 2010 with a workshop at the Lower East Side Girls Club went to Cuba, Haiti, Italy and New York University.

With a special emphasis on children, Hearts Of The World, invites people from every culture to express what is in their heart through color and form. It is a project with the intent of introducing art to those who may not otherwise have access.

I had the pleasure of painting a Haitian tap tap (communal bus taxi)

My art popped up in National Geographic (#$%^& Yeah!)

Pérola Bonfanti and I painted the Cosmic Double Rainbow Dragon Metatron Piano for Sing for Hope’s pop-up piano project, which placed 88 pianos around New York’s five boroughs.

For the finale of the project, our piano came to Lincoln Center Plaza with the other 87 pianos for an epic synchronized concert. Pop-Up Pianos brings countless people together in the joyous spirit of art and music~ It’s probably my favorite public art project.

I created the art for The Lower East Side Girl’s Club’s annual Mardi gras benefit poster.

And the poster for Brass Ascension in Tompkins Square Park for Make Music New York.

Portal 1

And then, there was The 13 Portals… An interactive street art experience, created by Perola Bonfanti and myself, with the Free Art Society. The series of “magical doors” was unveiled one after another, each Saturday on the streets of the East Village.

With each portal there was a challenge and a chance for people to earn one of 65 special keys that unlocked the secrets of Portal 13. For Portal 4 the challenge was The Hunt for the Egg of Life. Participants hunted for painted eggs in a local community garden, half of which had chocolate and half which contained keys. This image is a sequence of the unveiling of Portal 4 by the lucky guy who found the Egg of Life.

For the final portal Perola and I invited some of our favorite artists to collaborate. The mural was painted by Kaliptus, Adam Psybe, Xango Shola, Noelia Fernandez, Colyn Gold, Rex Dox and Perola and me.

I painted a city tram in Naples, Italy, along with friend and artist Jade Fusco. We dubbed it the Rinascimento Cosmico (Cosmic Renaissance)

There was quite a turn out at the unveiling. We wore Puccinella inspired masks and pointy hats that Jade made for the occasion.  Even Santa Clause showed up!

Behold, the “God of Pizza!” a mural I painted for the new Two Boots in Williamsburg. (which just opened)

You can find him at 558 Driggs Ave at N7th st, Brooklyn, NY

Perola and I created “The Palace on Mars,” a mosaic for the Lower East Side Girl’s Club’s new headquarters in Alphabet City, Manhattan. You can find this one at: 402 E 8th St, New York.

That about sums it up!

Who knows what portals will open up in 2014…
