I am excited to be in Vienna and to be working on our next project, The Aces of Percepion, an evolution of The 13 Portals project, a public art experience that Perola Bonfanti and I brought to the streets of New York City last year.
Vienna has so much depth, it’s like a rich chocolate million-layer cake. We are learning a lot about the history and are incorporating it into the experience. The project is set to hit the streets of Vienna on September 13th.

A prototype of one of the portals for Vienna. once a participant has successfully cracked its code, these doors will open to reveal the painting inside
In my last post I told you that I would write about the things that excite me the most about creating The Aces of Perception. Here they are:
1. We have full sponsorship, so we have the chance to collaborate with some very talented artists, including our friends Zel Nonnenberg, a video wizard and Nathan Wheeler, a brilliant composer. I am so excited to see what these guys come up with.
2. Instead using canvas and acrylic paint as we did with the 13 Portals, we are painting on glazed wood panels with oil paints and gold leaf. Painting with oils is a dream. They go on so smoothly and have such rich colors
3. We get to use geo mapping and augmented reality, two things we really wanted to experiment with in the former portals experience in NY, but could not afford, paying for everything out of our own artist pockets.
4. We get to collaborate with the ARS Electronica, the museum of technology in Linz, on the final experience to be unveiled behind the last portal.
5. We have city support, so the city of Vienna will promote our project and put our project flyers out around town at popular cultural spots.
6. Instead of installing the paintings inside abandoned door frames, we are building free standing portals and so we can choose our favorite locations in Vienna.
7. We get to put our work in the middle of the courtyard of one of the largest Museum complexes in Europe, The Museumquartier.

The painting begins
So far, Perola and I have been doing a lot of painting, working on the first portal, the Ace of Coins.
I will post progress photos soon~
