Vintage porcelain dishes, colorful plastic trinkets and toys, worn miniature playing cards, embroidered turkish clothes, big, warm fur coats, and people of all stripes; The Viennese flea market is open every Saturday from early until about 6pm.

The best time to go in my opinion is either early- to get all the good stuff, or around 5pm. Just before 6:00 all the sellers wanna get outta there and so they practically give their stuff away. They are most likely to make good deals for you after about 5:50 and they often end up leaving a lot of things behind on the ground.

We walked around at 6pm and the ground was covered with crumpled newspaper and scattered with discarded treasures. I could happily visit this place every week!

Tomorrow I say goodbye to Vienna and travel to Anchorage, Alaska, where I will meet up with my mother, who is running her 3rd Iditarod, the long-distance dog sled race from Willow to Nome.

I’ll write about it all here~

More soon…
