I am in Vienna until Wednesday and then I will board a plane to go to Alaska for a once in a lifetime opportunity to ride in a sled for the ceremonial start of the Iditarod. But not just any sled, my MOTHER’s sled.

The Iditarod is the most known and challenging dog sled race in the world. The journey runs 1,000-miles from Anchorage to Nome. This year will be my mother’s third race. I am so impressed with her adventurous spirit and her steadfast tenacity. I am very proud of her.

Personally I probably wouldn’t last a day out there.

To finish the race she must battle through blizzards and white-outs, sneak past wild moose, sleep on the trail in sub-zero temperatures, traverse forests, glaciers, mountains, cross icy rivers and end up in one piece in Nome.

I am a wuss in the cold. Thankfully I get to jump off the sled before it gets too real. But my mother, my fearless mother will journey on.

Here’s an article in my home paper about our upcoming adventure.

I’ll keep you posted~
